Why cookiecrumbfaith? Well, first off, I have such the sweet tooth, that you will almost always find me snacking on assortment of cookies every day. You’ll either find me dipping it in milk or hot coffee. Anyway, I casually asked my husband one day what he thought of the phrase, “cookiecrumbfaith!” As usual, my handsome husband, furrowed his eyebrows and gave me a quizzical look, then shook his head. And as usual he HAD to have his voice heard, “It doesn’t make sense baby, why cookiecrumbfaith?!” This was my reply….
Cookie as a whole is sweet and filling. It can also be moist, tough and soft. And sometimes if we are lucky enough, we get the chance of choosing which edible toppings to sprinkle it with. Whether it is chocolate chip, macadamia nuts, Oreos or snicker doodle, it’s to our delight as to which and how much. The flavors and toppings are endless and are used at our discretion or gluttony. It’s our choice after all; we are given the free- will to do with them as we please.
Albeit being gifted carte blanche of preference, sometimes the choices we make are often unsavory and unpleasant. And when adding too much in one cookie, all the excess begins to weight it down. The heavier the toppings and layers become, the cookie is unable to carry it all, and eventually the COOKIE CRUMBLES. And before you know it, you’ll notice tiny little pieces of crumbs hitting the ground. Some crumbs that fall hard leave their mark where they lay and some are carried away in the swiftness of the silent air.
And just like a cookie, WE too crumble. We want to carry so much, yet can barely hold on to anything at all. We love, yet we are hurt so we break. We care, yet we are betrayed so we anger. We are kind, yet we are disparaged, so we are unforgiving. And most all, we give so much of ourselves to the demand of others and the world, yet we are taken for granted, so we begin to question our self-worth and purpose and eventually our faith begins to wan and chip away. And eventually that once tough cookie’s fragmented self is nothing but feather-weight crumbs tossed about the in the air of silence, longing to be part of whole again.
Then you hear a voice, a still small, sweet voice that say’s, “I will take every broken piece of you and I will restore you to wholeness. I will move giants out of your way that are keeping you from receiving ALL the sweet-kiss of promises I have claimed over your life. All it takes is a tiny speck of faith, a COOKIECRUMBFAITH!” If a seed can move mountains, then the crumbs of faith will move towering obstacles and despair out of one’s path.
Even in our state of “cookie brokenness” OUR FATHER is so merciful. No matter what caused our brokenness or how far and wide the crumby pieces of us have fallen, our Father in heaven will scoop them up and restore the lost pieces of us to make us whole again. In the eyes of our Father, he wants every crumby part of us. He will refine us in the midst of our trials, strengthening our faith and our walk with him. And it is in these moments, we will realize and see that in those crumby parts of us is where we find strength and resolve to carry on.
